Performance Characteristics of VMFS and RDM

چکیده

VMware ESX Server offers three choices for managing disk access in a virtual machine—VMware Virtual Machine File System (VMFS), virtual raw device mapping (RDM), and physical raw device mapping. It is very important to understand the I/O characteristics of these disk access management systems in order to choose the right access type for a particular application. Choosing the right disk access management method can be a key factor in achieving high system performance for enterprise‐class applications. This study provides performance characterization of the various disk access management methods supported by VMware ESX Server. The goal is to provide data on performance and system resource utilization at various load levels for different types of work loads. This information offers you an idea of relative throughput, I/O rate, and CPU efficiency for each of the options so you can select the appropriate disk access method for your application.

G–BAM: A Generalized Bandwidth Allocation Model for IP/MPLS/DS-TE Networks

Bandwidth Allocation Models (BAMs) configure and handle resource allocation (bandwidth, LSPs, fibre) in networks in general (IP/MPLS/DS-TE, optical domain, other). BAMs currently available for IP/MPLS/DS-TE networks (MAM, RDM, G-RDM and AllocTC-Sharing) basically define resource restrictions (bandwidth) by “class” (traffic class, application ś class, user ś class or other grouping criteria) and...

STEGANOGRAPHY AND DIGITAL WATERMARKING Improving the performance of RDM watermarking by means of trellis coded quantisation

We propose a method to improve the performance of the recently introduced rational dither modulation (RDM) watermarking scheme. The improvement is obtained by modifying the essentially scalar nature of RDM with the introduction of a vector quantiser. The vector quantiser is based on a properly modified version of classical trellis coded quantisation, thus leading to the new trellis-coded RDM sc...
